Digital art has been a struggle for me lately, so I decided to take a break from Painter and pick up a pencil again. Figure it's good to work traditionally anyway since I'll be going to school for art this fall, and I know I won't be able to just do digital.

I refed a photo from Cosmo and used varying hardnesses of graphite. Ignore the crap hair. tgfhfgh

And scanners never cease to frustrate me.

Few WIPs can be seen on Twitter:

how did you do the highlight?? especially on the hair and chin? (that isn't crappy, imo). white pencil?

White pencil on the hair, just a kneaded eraser on her chin. The areas I hit with the white pencil on her face were her lips, nose, and eyes.

Thanks for the words of support. :) Right now I'm just doing art history, which can be a little dry. I can't wait to actually get into the drawing/painting classes.

Like!!! Very nice. Same reasons why I still shoot film, to connect with the analog side of the world.

I like the "crap" hair, lol - I like the feeling it evokes. You do amazing work with light and shading :-)

Crappy hair???? Nay nay nay nay! And nay! I like how you rendered the hair and reflections, indeed! I like to compare your style in this one with Keira (which I just faved, as I've come to pay more attention to traditional lately).

This portrait looks to me like the most “mature” in your gallery. Blended but not too much. Not too sketchy (don't make me wrong on this term, I'm not sure this is even the right one), just enough. The ending of the neck in the bottom summarizes what I want to illustrate. In short this is the kind and style of drawings I love most and I know you can be proud of it.

There has been a D.D. recently about ruling scanners out and taking back control on them :D .

Ashley, this is simply gorgeous! The lighting is so perfect and the the shading on her face is stunning. I absolutely love her hair and the way you highlighted every single strand. Completely amazing! :+favlove:
